👉 Location: Upper High Street and surrounding town centre roads (closed for the event)
⏰ Time: 11 AM – 4 PM, Sunday, 29th September 2024
Heads up! There will be road closures affecting Upper and Lower High Streets, Tunsgate, Market Street, and other nearby roads from 7 AM to 5:30 PM. Buses will be rerouted, but town centre car parks will stay open, and additional blue-badge parking spaces will be available.
The Digest 🗞️😀
Bad news for swimmers this winter: Despite nearly 1,400 signatures on a petition to keep it open year-round, Guildford Borough Council has confirmed the town’s lido won’t offer winter swimming. The lido closed on 15th September, but there’s hope for next year, the council is considering winter swimming as part of the new contract in October 2025. Until then, the lido will stay shut until it reopens for summer in 2025. Bitterly disappointing and unexpected news with the amount of support this had! 🏊♂️🚫
Once a busy road of independent shops, Baker Street in Weybridge is now at risk of collapse: with business owners moving to places like Cobham and Farnham: Multiple closures in the past year have left the street resembling a “ghost town,” with traders blaming a controversial decision by the council. A bollard introduced during the pandemic to allow for social distancing has now permanently closed off through traffic - without consultation, according to shop owners. Long-standing businesses like Step 39 and Sk:n have closed, while others, like Lola Jones, have relocated, leaving the street struggling, it’s great for residents, but not for shop owners - where do you fall on this? I just hope Los Hermanos Tapas stays open!! 🏚️💨
Big changes are coming to Reigate & Banstead, with plans to upgrade CCTV in 22 town centre locations: The new cameras will join the 39 already installed in car parks and parks, bringing the total to 61 high-quality devices keeping an eye on things. The council's goal? To make people feel safer and ensure clear evidence is available for investigations. While live monitoring won't return, these upgrades are based on data showing where cameras are most needed. Keep an eye out as more locations might be added soon! 📸👀
Don’t forget Farnham food festival this weekend!
