🌳 Chilli Festival, Food & Fashion Fairs! | 20th September
Good morning, Surrey. Simon here! This is Inspired Surrey, where receiving this email is like opening the mailbox and finding a postcard from a friend.
In today’s Inspired Surrey:
Surrey Chilli Festival will heat up your weekend 🌶️
Vintage fashion fair this Saturday 🧥
Food Rocks Redhill on Sunday 🍏
Let’s get to it.
Get Ready to Feel the Heat at the Surrey Chilli Festival! 🌶️🔥
The Surrey Chilli Festival is back at Walton Cricket Club for 2024, and it’s bringing the heat! If you’re a fan of spice, live music, and a day full of family-friendly fun, this is one event you won’t want to miss.
The music lineup is just as exciting, with Britain’s Got Talent Golden Buzzer winner Taryn Charles headlining both days.
Alongside her, you’ll enjoy performances from loads of other acts, not many that I recognise, but I’m sure they’ll provide the perfect soundtrack to your chilli-filled weekend!
And we can’t forget the main event, the legendary Chilli Eating Competition, where brave souls test their limits. If you’ve ever wanted to watch (or join) a battle of endurance where the only weapons are fiery peppers, this is your chance.
What Else to Expect:
A huge selection of food & drink stalls, featuring everything from mild to “I can’t feel my face” levels of spicy.
Kids Zone: Keep the little ones entertained while you test your chilli-eating skills.
Family-friendly fun all weekend long!

Mark your calendars and don't miss this FREE event, just take a brolly, thunderstorms are due!
The Digest 🗞️😀
The sinkhole on Dorking’s West Street has turned out to be a bigger issue than first thought: Thames Water are now needing to replace a longer section of the damaged surface water sewer pipe. To add to the chaos, SES Water discovered a minor leak on one of its pipes nearby, leading to a temporary water shutoff for repairs. Despite the road closure, businesses along West Street, famous for its antique shops, remain open. Local traders, while noticing a drop in footfall, are encouraging shoppers to enjoy the car-free experience, with posters from the Dorking Business Improvement District reminding everyone that it’s still business as usual! 🛍️🚧
Yellow weather warning for thunderstorms across southern England, including Surrey and West Sussex, starting at midday on Friday and lasting until midnight on Saturday: While many areas will stay dry, the warning advises that thunderstorms and heavy showers could cause disruptions, with frequent lightning, gusty winds, and even hail in some spots. Rainfall could reach up to 25mm in an hour, with potential for more in localized areas, leading to challenging driving conditions and possible delays to public transport. Residents in flood-prone areas are being urged to prepare for potential flooding and avoid sheltering near trees or structures during the storms. ⚡🌧️
The Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) could soon be expanded, with Natural England considering adding up to 27 new areas to this iconic landscape: Already known for its stunning views, ancient woodlands, and rare habitats, the Surrey Hills could grow by up to 30% under the new proposal! A consultation has been launched, and while most areas are set to gain AONB status, some “minor areas” may lose protection. Areas under consideration for inclusion stretch from Wey Valley to Mole Valley, covering picturesque spots like Hogs Back and Cranleigh Waters. 🌳🌄
