Tucked away in the Surrey countryside, Betchworth Castle is a hidden gem with centuries of history and a few spooky secrets.

Originally a medieval manor from the 11th century, it was fortified in the 14th century by Sir John Fitzalan before being partly dismantled in the 1800s.

Today, its atmospheric ruins (rumoured to be haunted!) sit peacefully by the River Mole, perfect for a scenic countryside stroll.

🎬 Spy Movie: The Play! – The Greatest Spy Movie (n)Ever Made

🗓️ Saturday 24 May | 7:30pm
📍 Main House, Yvonne Arnaud Theatre, Guildford
🎟️ Tickets £26 | Ages 12+

Lights, camera… chaos! If you like your spy thrillers with a shaken martini and a very large side of silliness, don’t miss Spy Movie: The Play!—a hilarious, action-packed send-up of everything we love (and love to mock) about Bond films.

Agent Blonde has 24 hours to save the world—but first, she has to deal with over-the-top villains, an absurd plot, and, well… no actual budget. With you, the audience, cast as would-be Hollywood producers, you’re in for a night of theatrical mayhem, complete with malfunctioning props, improv antics, and gloriously low-budget brilliance.

From the minds behind The New Musketeers, and starring cast members from The Play That Goes Wrong and Peter Pan Goes Wrong, this is a family-friendly comedy that’s perfect for teens, grown-ups, and anyone who’s ever loved a spy flick.

  • Physical comedy and slapstick spy antics

  • Laugh-out-loud moments and tongue-in-cheek action

  • Drama, danger and cuddly toys (obviously)

  • A totally unique, one-night-only performance

🕒 Running time: 2 hrs 10 mins (incl. 20 min interval)
♿ Accessibility: Free Essential Companion tickets available

🎟️ Book your tickets here – because this mission is possible… but only if you get tickets before it sells out! 🕶️🎭

The Digest 🗞️😀

West Horsley Place—the real-life stand-in for Button House in the BBC’s hit sitcom Ghosts—has just received a £233,000 Lottery grant to boost its green spaces and support mental health initiatives. The 400-acre estate near Guildford, also seen in Enola Holmes and Vanity Fair, will launch projects like “archaeology on prescription,” nature-based volunteering, and student wellbeing workshops. With ancient woodlands, medieval fishponds, and more than 70 protected plant species, it’s not just a filming location—it’s a growing community haven. 🌳👻

The Garibaldi in Redhill—run entirely by volunteers and loved for its community spirit—is in a race against time to buy its 150-year-old building before it’s sold out from under them. The pub, which reinvests every penny back into local projects and even runs a community garden, has been fundraising since 2024 to secure its future. MP Rebecca Paul called it “so much more than bricks and mortar” during a recent debate, urging support to keep this social hub thriving. Locals are fighting hard to keep the pints—and the community heartbeat—flowing. 🍻🌱

Cllr Amanda Boote has officially taken the chains as Mayor of Woking for 2025–26, bringing with her a passion for community, the environment, and a seriously impressive hiking resume (yes, she’s climbed Kilimanjaro and trekked to Everest Base Camp!). A long-time Byfleet resident and local volunteer powerhouse, Cllr Boote plans to champion Citizens Advice Woking as her chosen charity this year, and is excited to connect with residents across the borough. Fluent in French and German, she’ll also represent Woking internationally through its twinning association. One busy mayor ahead! 🏞️🎖️

Weather

Friday

19° 🌡️ 11° | ⛅ | It’s been a strange week for the weather, we’ve had sunshine, it chucked it down on Wednesday, the clouds don’t seem to pass through.. and that’s exactly how Friday’s looking, cloudy, with sunny intervals.

Saturday

20° 🌡️ 12° | 🌧️ | Saturday, however, looks to be a glum one. Rain forecast pretty much most of the day, and it’s going to feel awfully humid if you do venture outdoors!

Sunday

20° 🌡️ 9° | ⛅ | And back to the regular sunshine battling through the clouds on Sunday, there is a chance of rain, albeit a small one, but Sunday afternoon should be a good one.

Thank you! 👍
