🌳 Foodies Festival, Caterham Festival, What's On This Weekend & More! | 30th May

Good morning, Surrey. Simon here! This is Inspired Surrey, the local newsletter that’s already counting down the days to the next bank holiday weekend in August!

In today’s Inspired Surrey:

  • Foodie Festival is Back 🍴

  • Caterham Festival this weekend 🎉

  • What’s on Guide for this weekend 📅

Let’s get to it.

🎉 Caterham Festival Street Party – Let’s Go Big This Summer!

🗓️ Sunday 1 June | 1–6pm
📍 Caterham High Street, CR3 5UA
🎟️ Free entry | Family-friendly

The Festival Street Party is back and taking over the High Street for a full afternoon of live music, local food, giant games, and all-out fun. It’s one of the biggest dates in the local calendar—and it’s completely free to attend.

Kicking off at 1pm, the street will be buzzing with entertainment for all ages. There’s a live music stage hosted by Ridge Radio and sponsored by Right at Home, with bands playing back-to-back throughout the day, including local legends Slapdaddy and the always-energetic Chase the Tail. And if you're a football fan, don't miss the special Crystal Palace FC celebration at 2:45pm.

🎶 Main Stage Music Highlights:

  • 1pm – Avro Anson

  • 1:45pm – Chase the Tail

  • 2:50pm – Stone the Quos

  • 3:55pm – Slapdaddy

  • 5pm – The Lower 48

Elsewhere on the street, you’ll find performances from Croydon Male Voice Choir, Northdown Drummers, Warlingham Corps of Drums, and a lively tea dance at Caterham Community Centre.

For the little ones (and the young at heart), there’s a full line-up of family-friendly activities:

🎪 Street Fun Includes:

  • A giant sandpit

  • Dunk tank

  • Art wall & photo ops

  • Circus skills with Rico the Clown

  • Face painting

  • Giant games galore

Don’t forget to check out the market area, where around 40 local traders will be selling crafts, gifts, produce and more. And when hunger strikes, you’ll be spoilt for choice—pubs, cafés and restaurants along the High Street will be serving up tasty street food, with a large seating area outside The King & Queen for a proper sit-down.

Finish strong with the legendary FOAM PARTY at 5:15pm, hosted by Computer Solutions. It’s bubbly, it’s bonkers, and it’s guaranteed fun for the whole family!

This is what community is all about—local talent, local food, and local people coming together for one unforgettable day. We’ll see you there! 🥳🎈

The Digest 🗞️😀

Taylor Wimpey submits a proposal to build around 150 new homes on the site of the long-running Hill Park Roses Garden Centre: The centre, family-run since 1968, is still operating—for now—but planning documents suggest a mix of 1–5 bedroom homes, up to three storeys high, could soon take its place. Up to 50% of the homes may be classed as affordable, a key detail for Elmbridge, one of the least affordable areas in the country. The surrounding green spaces like Stokes Field and One Tree Hill will remain untouched, with plans for extra environmental improvements, though locals may still be mourning the potential loss of their beloved garden centre. 🌳🏠

Runnymede Borough Council is drying things up the greener way—spending £18,000 on electric hand driers to replace paper towels at its Addlestone Civic Hall offices: The move, suggested by staff, is expected to cut down on unrecyclable waste and save money long-term, with the council previously spending £12,000 a year on disposable towels. While some have questioned the timing, given the looming 2027 devolution shake-up, the council says the change is all about lowering carbon and cutting costs. Sometimes the small switches make the biggest difference. 💨🌍

Bad news for families hoping to cool off this summer—Stoke Park’s popular paddling pool in Guildford is staying closed after water quality tests revealed contamination: The pool was due to open on 24 May, just in time for the bank holiday, but Guildford Borough Council says the water didn’t meet safety standards despite resurfacing work, new staff training, and early prep. The council is now flushing and refilling the pool to remove any remaining contaminants, with no confirmed re-opening date just yet. Fingers crossed the splash zone is back soon! 🚫🌊
