The Digest 🗞️😀
Redhill dad runs 37 miles across London for Ukraine: Andy Lewis, whose wife Lesya’s family is from Ukraine, ran an ‘Air Defence Marathon’ with two others to raise awareness of the Russian bombardment of Ukraine and to raise funds for its civilians. Along the way, they stopped at sites hit during WWII’s Blitz and V1/V2 rocket attacks, drawing powerful comparisons between the bombings Londoners faced in the 1940s and what Ukrainians are enduring today. “We wanted to help Ukraine—it’s heartbreaking,” said Andy, who has family still living under constant air raid alerts. If you want to donate, you can do so here!🏃🇺🇦
A brand-new adventure-themed mini golf venue, Mr Mulligan’s, is coming to North Street: Set to open in the old TGI Friday’s, the spot will feature two 9-hole courses filled with props, putting greens, and sand bunkers. The venue, in the heart of Guildford, has been sitting empty since TGI Fridays closed in 2022, so it was long overdue. Adventure Leisure Limited’s plans were just approved by Guildford Borough Council, and Mr Mulligan’s could be open as early as December 1! ⛳🏌️♀️
Over 1,300 sign petition to bring back year-round swimming at Guildford Lido: Campaigners are calling on Guildford Borough Council and operators Freedom Leisure to reinstate winter swimming at the much-loved facility, which was open year-round from 2014 until the pandemic. Ali Pereira, who launched the petition, says the Lido’s clean water and recent investments make it perfect for year-round use. Supporters, like Dr Thom Van Every, highlight the health benefits of cold-water swimming, including boosts to metabolism and mental well-being. With the contract up for renewal in November, swimmers are eager to make their voices heard and get in the pool year round! ❄️🏊♀️
