The Digest 🗞️😀

Runnymede Car Parks to Go Cashless! Starting soon, several car parks in Surrey will switch to card-only payments, as Runnymede Borough Council installs new pay-and-display machines. The first seven car parks to go cashless include spots in Chertsey (Homewood Park, Gogmore Farm, Beomonds) and across Egham and Englefield Green (Pooley Green, Hummer Road, Victoria Street, St Jude’s). You can still use the RingGo app or phone line, and pre-paid cards. Blue badge holders will continue to park for free in off-street bays. 💳📱

The Historic Willmer House in Farnham is getting a new lease of life: Waverley Borough Council have given the green light to save the iconic building home to the Museum of Farnham - from falling into ruin. This Grade I listed building, built in 1718, is officially getting a much-needed facelift to prevent it from being lost forever. Think of it as a £1.2 million makeover! The project, which totals a cool £1,286,713, had a funding gap, but the council has stepped in to cover the final £300,000 shortfall. With Farnham Town Council and the Farnham Museum Society each pitching in £10,000, plus hefty grants lined up from outside bodies, this rescue mission is well underway. 🏛️🔍

Surrey's Jack Draper battles nerves in US Open semi heartbreak: Surrey's tennis star Jack Draper saw his US Open dream come to a tough end, describing it as the “worst feeling ever” after being sick on court four times during his semi-final against world number one Jannik Sinner. Draper, who is one of our own, grew up in Cobham, had hoped to follow in the footsteps of some of the British major greats like Andy Murray, but the pressure of the moment got the better of him in a straight-sets defeat - personally, I think he absolutely smashed it! 🎾👏
