The rail line between Guildford and Effingham Junction will shut down from 21–27 December for emergency embankment repairs after sensors detected ground movement: Network Rail is stepping in to stabilise the slope with metal sheet piles and steel rods to ensure passenger safety. While the works might cause some noise and disruption, replacement buses and diverted services will help keep things moving. Be sure to check journey planners before travelling 🚆👷

Storm Darragh has left Woking’s Victoria Way in a prolonged state of closure, and residents aren’t thrilled: The road shut on 7 December after loose panels on the Hilton hotel raised safety concerns, and further issues with the cladding mean it won’t reopen until mid-January. Local MP Will Forster has called for accountability from contractor Sir Robert McAlpine, urging them to speed up repairs and address the impact on local businesses. While the Hilton remains open, Woking Borough Council’s leader called the situation "hugely disappointing" for a town already familiar with cladding woes. Here’s hoping for a speedy resolution! 🏗️😤

Surrey's landscape is set for a significant change as Waverley Borough Council has approved a major housing development at Coxbridge Farm on the edge of Farnham: The project will bring 320 new homes—including 96 affordable units—to the area. After initial plans were deferred in October due to design concerns, developers Cala Homes revised the layout to address issues like roads leading directly to existing gardens, instead enhancing cycle routes and public spaces. The development will feature timber-framed homes with air source heat pumps, new footpaths, children's play areas, and aims to balance the needs of new housing with the amenities of existing residents. 🏡🌳
