The Digest 🗞️😀

Ferris Meadow Lake, a lovely spot that attracts over 30,000 swimmers every year, is facing potential closure, and locals are not happy about it: The Environment Agency (EA) plans to create a flood channel that could send polluted river water straight into the lake! Nearly 50,000 people have already signed a petition to stop the project, which could devastate the lake’s pristine water and unique wildlife. The lake has raised funds to help disabled children access swimming across the UK. Any support for the lake would be fantastic, please sign the petition here if you get a moment. 🏞️🏊‍♀️

Well, it looks like the Mound car park in Tattenham Corner is shutting down for good on 17th October, and it’s all thanks to relentless fly-tipping: Despite CCTV and countless efforts from Reigate and Banstead Borough Council, people just couldn’t resist turning the recycling spot into their own personal dumping ground. Councillor Hannah Avery hit the nail on the head, saying this kind of behaviour "does more harm than good," not only hurting the environment but also pulling the council’s teams away from other important work. With over 300 van-loads of waste cleared each year, it’s no wonder they’ve decided to close the site and repurpose the space for extra parking. ♻️😤

It’s official—Surrey is one of the hottest spots to live in the UK, with a whopping 13 towns making the cut in a new ranking of Britain's 50 most desirable places to live: The list, compiled by Savills for The Telegraph, had Cobham taking the crown as Surrey’s best, coming in second overall, with house prices averaging a cool £1.4 million! Esher followed close behind at seventh with its vibrant vibe, while Farnham, Virginia Water, and Weybridge rounded out the top 20 (Weybridge being dubbed the “Beverly Hills of Surrey,” no less!). With thriving communities, great schools, and a healthy dose of affluence, it’s no wonder Surrey’s the place to be! 🌳💼
