How lucky are we to live in Surrey!
Built-in 1803, Elmer’s Windmill spun its way through time until 1944, when only its brick base remained.
Fast forward, and it’s been reborn as a home, keeping the charm of the original smock mill, minus the sails!
Now, I can’t help but wonder, what’s it like inside? It’s a fascinating blend of history and home!

Woking Library Unveils Its Fresh New Look! 🎉📚
After months of refurbishments, Woking Library is back and better than ever! With new furniture, extra study space, upgraded toilets, and soon-to-launch out-of-hours access, it’s ready to welcome the community.
To celebrate, a week of free activities runs from 27th January to 1st February, featuring crafts, poetry workshops, and even reptile encounters (because why not?! 🦎).
Plus, Tai Chi and calligraphy sessions will mark the upcoming Lunar New Year.
This revamp is part of Surrey’s multi-million-pound library modernisation programme, with more improvements coming to Epsom, Redhill, Staines, and Weybridge by the end of 2025.

The Digest 🗞️😀
Woking Borough Council will join the nation in marking Holocaust Memorial Day on Monday, 27th January, by lighting a candle in remembrance of those lost to genocide: This year holds special significance, marking 80 years since the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau and 30 years since the Bosnia genocide. Residents are encouraged to take part in the #LightTheDarkness campaign by placing a candle in their window at 8 PM, symbolizing a commitment to reflection, remembrance, and a future built on tolerance and peace. 🕯️✨
The railway line between Guildford and Gatwick Airport is shutting down for 16 days (1st-16th February): Engineers will be upgrading tracks, signals, and level crossings—plus, they’re swapping out ageing bridge timbers for ones that’ll last 30 years longer. Replacement bus services will cover the route, so plan ahead if you’re travelling. Network Rail says this "vital upgrade" will mean smoother, more reliable journeys—but for now, expect a bumpy few weeks! 🚌🔧
Big changes are coming to Queens Park in Caterham as it celebrates 125 years with a £1.4 million revamp! Expect a new accessible playground, study area, refreshment kiosk, and lots more trees—plus, measures to tackle flooding and boost biodiversity. Tandridge District Council promises these upgrades will keep the park a beloved community spot for generations to come. Sounds like a perfect excuse for a picnic when it’s all done! Take a look here. 🛝🌿
