The Digest 🗞️😀
Bad news for drivers in Guildford: A water hydrant burst on Monday, causing flooding at the junction of Manor Road and Woodbridge Hill in the city centre - the scenes were unbelievable! (see it here) Thames Water responded quickly, with engineers fixing the issue within a few hours. A spokesperson apologised for the disruption, and investigations are now underway to determine what caused the burst. Hopefully, that's the end of the soggy situation! 💧🚧
Retired Woking-based grandad, Bob Baillie, 67, has expressed his heartfelt thanks after an epic charity bike ride: It raised a whopping £30,000 for Bowel Cancer UK, in support of his daughter Emily, 42, who’s battling stage 4 bowel cancer. Bob, along with former colleagues from United Rental Group Ltd, cycled 170 miles over two days, from Norwich to Chesterfield. Emily, joined by her kids, Ella (11) and Charlie (14), even hopped on for the final stretch! Emily was first diagnosed at 38 after several GP visits, but despite the tough battle, Bob says she’s handling it all with strength and grace. “I’m unbelievably proud of her,” he shared. A total of 11 riders completed the full ride, with others jumping in along the way—even on exercise bikes! Amazing work, and you can donate here! 🚴♂️💪
Surrey Connect, the popular on-demand bus service, has expanded to even more areas: Including Runnymede, parts of Surrey Heath, wider Guildford borough, and Waverley! 🚍 This flexible service, designed for areas with fewer traditional bus routes, has already transported over 84,000 passengers and is now available to even more communities. With fares starting at just £2, and buses running Monday to Friday from 7am to 7pm (and Saturdays from 8am to 6pm), you can book a ride with just 30 minutes' notice through their app or online. Find out more details here. 🚏🚍
