🌳 Sculpture Park, Joel Dommet, Hendog & What's On This Weekend! | 28th March

Good morning, Surrey. Simon here! This is Inspired Surrey, popping into your inbox just in time for Mother’s Day weekend—aka the one time a year we all pretend we remembered it without being reminded. Whether you’re planning breakfast in bed, a peaceful walk, or a mad dash to the florist, I’ve got your weekly dose of local loveliness right here. Let’s dive in, shall we?

In today’s Inspired Surrey:

  • Alternative Mother’s Day at The Sculpture Park 🧖

  • Hendog appears in Haslemere 🖌️

  • Joel Dommet live in April, limited tickets 🤣

  • What’s on Guide for this weekend 📅

Let’s get to it.

🌳 Take Mum Somewhere Magical This Mother’s Day – The Sculpture Park, Churt

Tired of the same old Mother’s Day routine? This year, swap soggy toast in bed and overcrowded pubs for something a bit more magical.

Tucked away in the heart of the Surrey Hills, The Sculpture Park in Churt is one of Surrey’s best-kept secrets—and it’s tailor-made for a relaxed Sunday stroll with Mum.

Winding woodland trails, tranquil lakes, and over 800 sculptures dotted throughout a 2-mile trail, all nestled in nature’s quiet embrace. It’s part art gallery and part enchanted forest - it’s a bit different!

Why You’ll Love It:

  • 🎨 Art lovers will swoon over the range of work—abstract, classical, whimsical… even a bit weird (in the best way).

  • 🌿 Nature buffs can enjoy birdsong, babbling brooks, and peaceful greenery that’ll melt the stress away.

  • 🐾 Dog parents? Bring the pup along! Well-behaved pooches on leads are welcome.

  • 💰 Shopping itch? Every sculpture is for sale, so if Mum falls in love with a 6-foot metal heron, it can come home with you.

Event Details:

📍 The Sculpture Park, Corner of Jumps and Tilford Road, Churt, Farnham GU10 2LB
🕙 Open daily, 10am–5pm (last entry at 3pm)
🎟 £15 for adults / £10 for concessions (students, over 65s, children, etc.)
🚗 Free parking (plus overflow at The Bel & The Dragon pub across the road)
🥪 No café, but picnics are welcome—or pop over to Bel & The Dragon for a Sunday roast or a cheeky G&T.

Good to Know:

  • The trail isn’t suitable for prams or wheelchairs (it’s a bit rugged in parts), so sensible shoes are a must.

  • There are lakes and ponds throughout—great for ambience, but keep a close eye on little ones.

  • Book ahead online, especially on busy days like Mother’s Day

So if Mum's the sort who’d love a peaceful day out, surrounded by art, trees, and thoughtful conversation (with a sculpture of a winged horse in the background), this one’s a winner.

Hot tip: Bring your camera—this place is Instagram gold. Just don’t tell everyone. Let’s keep it a little local secret, shall we?

🎨 Haslemere Gets a Hendog: Nostalgia and Mystery in a Car Park Mural

Another dose of mystery and meaning has landed in Surrey—this time in Haslemere, where anonymous street artist Hendog has unveiled his fourth local mural.

The piece, found tucked away on a town centre car park wall near Swan Barn Walk, shows a young boy gazing at his retro pull-along dog toy—a nostalgic nod to simpler times.

Part of his Joyful Nostalgia series, the artwork blends childhood innocence with deeper social commentary, a signature style that’s earned him comparisons to Banksy (and 12k+ Insta fans).

🎭 Joel Dommett Is Coming to Surrey — And He’s Bringing the Happy Idiot Energy

If you’ve ever watched The Masked Singer and thought, “I’d love to go for a pint with that guy,” well, this might just be the next best thing.

Joel Dommett—TV presenter, stand-up comic, and newly crowned king of chaotic dad energy—is hitting Surrey with his brand-new show Happy Idiot on Thursday 17th April 2025. And spoiler alert: it’s going to be hilarious.

What to Expect:

Joel’s bringing stories from the glitzy world of TV (yes, there will be celebrity name drops 👀) and the not-so-glitzy world of new parenthood (think: nappies, no sleep, and mysterious banana stains).

It’s all delivered with his trademark charm, infectious energy, and just the right amount of self-deprecation.

🎤 Venue: Main House (grab those good seats early!)
🕢 Showtime: 7:30pm sharp
⏱️ Running time: Around 90 minutes – just enough to escape your own chaos for a bit
🎟️ Tickets: £29 / Concessions from £24 (students, under 25s, carers – you’re covered)

The Digest 🗞️😀

There’s exciting news from the skies above Woking—peregrine falcon babies incoming! 🐣 The much-loved falcon pair nesting atop Export House have laid their first three eggs of the year, delighting fans who follow the live cam from The Woking Peregrine Project. These urban cliff-dwellers have made this rooftop their home since 2016, and local birdwatchers are egg-static (sorry, had to) to see another breeding season underway. With more eggs expected and hopes high for healthy chicks, it’s another feather in the cap for Woking’s wild residents. 🦅📹

Godstone is bouncing back: Just over a month after a dramatic sinkhole swallowed part of the High Street and forced 30 households to evacuate, most residents are finally back home—and local businesses are ready to welcome everyone with open arms. While four households are still waiting for the green light, council leaders say the town is officially "open for business" again. The cause of the collapse is still a mystery (tunnels? old soakaways? Ninja Turtles?) but testing is ongoing. In the meantime, it’s good to see life returning to normal(ish) on the surface. 🏡🕳️

Big changes could be on the horizon for how Surrey is run—and local councils want your say before anything gets signed off: A new public survey has just launched as eight district and borough councils explore a major shake-up to local government. The idea? Replacing the current system (which has been ticking along for 50 years!) with two or three unitary authorities—streamlining services, boosting accountability, and hopefully making the whole thing less of a bureaucratic maze. Leaders say it’s a “once-in-a-generation” chance to shape how local services are delivered, so whether you’re team “change is good” or “if it ain’t broke...”, now’s your time to speak up! 🗳️📣
