The Digest 🗞️😀
Surrey County Council has announced the opening of 260 new specialist school places for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND): They are just in time for the 2024 school year. These places have been made possible by several construction projects completed across the county, including expansions at schools in Farnham, Chertsey, and Epsom. The need for more SEND places was highlighted in August when six MPs raised concerns about a “crisis” in local provision. Council leader Tim Oliver reassured families they were “working hard” to fix it, and now, with another 250 places planned for 2025, Surrey’s on the right track! 🏫👧
Elmbridge Borough Council is on the lookout for volunteers to help restore Weybridge Heath: The aim is to boost its biodiversity and preserve this important wildlife habitat. If you love nature and want to make a difference, this is your chance! Simon Waugh, portfolio holder for leisure, culture, and commercial strategy, praised the “fantastic job” volunteers do in keeping the borough rich in wildlife. With work sessions kicking off on 13 November, 11 December, and 12 February 2025, you can find all the details on the council’s website – time to get involved and give back to nature! 🌍🌿
Surrey’s top hotels have been awarded prestigious Michelin Keys, recognizing them as some of the best stays in the UK: Beaverbrook in Leatherhead, with its stunning 400-acre estate and Victorian mansion, earned two keys for its luxurious offerings, including a spa and private cinema. Coworth Park, just outside Surrey, also snagged two keys for its lush parkland, polo fields, and world-class dining. Over in East Grinstead, Gravetye Manor impressed with its historic charm and intimate 18-room setup, while Heckfield Place in Hampshire wowed with its Georgian elegance and wellness retreats. It’s official—Surrey’s the place to be for a luxury escape! 🌿🏨
