🌳 Spanish Festival, Frensham Hall, Wellness Walk & What's On This Weekend! | 11th April

Good morning, Surrey. Simon here! This is Inspired Surrey. Work should be illegal on Fridays when it’s sunny. Who’s with me?!

In today’s Inspired Surrey:

  • Spanish festival of music 🎶

  • Wellness walk later this month 🥾

  • Frensham Hall hosting fantastic lifestyle event 🌸

  • What’s on Guide for this weekend 📅

Let’s get to it.

Spanish Sizzle at The Horton – Music, Dance & a Touch of Flamenco! 🎶

If you're looking to spice up your April with something a little more olé! than usual, The Horton in Epsom is bringing the fire with its Festival of Spanish Music and Dance!

This two-day cultural fiesta (Friday 18th – Saturday 19th April) is part of the venue’s fourth annual Spanish Season, and they’ve promised us it's going to be muy caliente.

The series is not only a celebration of stunning Spanish artistry but also a touching tribute to Felix García, a talented dancer tragically confined to Horton Asylum in 1919. His story echoes through this powerful weekend of music, dance, and storytelling.

Here’s what’s going on - pick your passion:

🎹 Friday’s Schedule:

  • Piano on Fire (2pm) – Spanish classics on The Horton’s grand piano 🎹 (£15)

  • Talk: Andalusian Music & Flamenco (6:15pm) – Get the backstory before the main event (£10)

  • Spanish Passion Concert (8pm) – Flamenco, guitar, and Bolero dance magic — performed in the round 💃🔥 (£24)

🎸 Saturday’s Schedule:

  • Morning Masterclasses (9–11am) – Dance with Cristina or strum with Álvaro 🎼 (£25 each)

  • Spanish Fairytale Concert (12 noon) – Pedro y el Lobo for the little ones (Ages 4+) 🐺

  • Guitar On Fire (2pm) – Passionate Spanish guitar, up close and personal (£15)

  • Talk: The Three-Cornered Hat Ballet (6:15pm) – History meets Horton (£10)

  • Echoes of Spain (8pm) – Grand finale with piano, dance and mezzo-soprano magic 🎤 (£28)

Some of these events will sell out, so don’t siesta on this one.

The Digest 🗞️😀

Big news in Addlestone this week as Philip Southcote School unveiled its shiny new teaching block and a sparkling hydrotherapy pool: With state-of-the-art classrooms, a slick IT suite, and dedicated spaces for hearing-impaired students, this £11.1m upgrade (courtesy of Surrey County Council) is a game-changer for local SEND education. The new pool isn't just great for therapy — it’s eco-friendly too, slashing carbon emissions by up to 45%. One student even described the space as "tranquil" — and honestly, we love that for them. 🏫💧

The ultimate game of motorway hide-and-seek just got real — and Surrey drivers on their phones should beware! An unmarked HGV cab (yes, a full-on lorry) has been dubbed a “golden ticket” by Surrey Police, offering officers a top-down spy spot to catch distracted motorists mid-scroll. Part of Operation Tramline, this stealthy cab has clocked over 13,000 hours on the roads nationwide, helping bust everything from mobile phone use to seatbelt shirkers. One driver even claimed they were calling their new girlfriend because their song came on the radio. Bold move, mate. 🚨📱

Lights, camera, Surrey! A freshly updated movie map from Waverley Borough Council is giving film buffs the ultimate excuse for a star-studded local stroll. From Bourne Wood (yep, House of the Dragon was there) to Dunsfold Aerodrome (think Top Gear meets Casino Royale), Surrey’s backdrops have never looked so Hollywood. The new additions include Netflix’s Back in Action with Jamie Foxx and Cameron Diaz, Ridley Scott’s Napoleon, and Florence Pugh’s latest tearjerker filmed around Godalming. Grab the map online now or pop by Guildford Tourist Info Centre or your local Waverley library to get your hands on a printed one. Happy location-spotting! You can see the map here. 🎥🗺️

Weather

Friday

21° 🌡️ 5° | ☀️ | I’m going to say it.. It’s going to be hotter than Ibiza today! What a lovely day we’ve got in store, barely any wind, bright sunshine, it might even get to 22/23, enjoy it, just put some sunscreen on!

Saturday

21° 🌡️ 9° | ☀️ | Saturday is going to be a lovely day too, a gentle breeze in the air, but gorgeous sunshine throughout. There is a chance of some evening rain, but the day will be a cracker.

Sunday

18° 🌡️ 5° | ⛅ | The wind picks up a bit on Sunday, and the cloud cover is moving in after Saturday night’s possible rain. It should stay dry most of the day though, and it’ll be another nice day/

Thank you! 👍
