Guildford Lions Firework Fiesta 2024 🎇🎆

More firework nights this week!

The Guildford Lions Firework Fiesta is here this Saturday, and ready to light up the sky for a night packed with dazzling displays, live music, and all the fun you’d expect!

What’s really nice about this fiesta, is every penny raised from this event goes to support the Guildford Lions welfare fund and Oakleaf Enterprise, helping the community and supporting mental health services. ❤️

📅 When: Saturday, 2 November, Gates open at 5pm
🚶 Where: Stoke Park, Guildford

What you’ve got to look forward to:

• 🎸 Live Music: From The Hired Guns, a party band that brings high-energy covers of favourites from The Killers, George Ezra, Taylor Swift, and more. They’re a supergroup of world-class session musicians who've played with the likes of Nile Rodgers and Fatboy Slim. Two sets are scheduled: 6-7pm and 7:30-8:30pm!

• 🧸 Kids’ Entertainment Zone: A fantastic experience for little ones with fairground rides, face painting, meet-and-greets with Captain America, Elsa, and more!

• 🌌 Epic Fireworks Display: A grand finale by Pains Fireworks, the UK's largest fireworks company, starting at 8:30pm.

• 🎤 MC Extraordinaire: Peter Gordon will be your host, adding a dash of charm and fun throughout the night.

• 🎟️ Adult tickets: £12.50 (+£1 booking fee), all children under 16 enter FREE (with a supervising adult).

No tickets will be sold at the gate, so book in advance!

Thursley Common boardwalk in Elstead – destroyed by a fierce wildfire in 2020 – has been voted Britain’s favourite path: Nominated by local resident Michelle Presley, who grew up exploring its trails, the boardwalk beat out over 600 other paths across the UK in The Ramblers' national competition. The judges whittled it down to a shortlist of eight, but the public showed up for Thursley in a big way. "It might be one of the underdogs, but it’s a little hidden gem," said Michelle, who wanted to honour the resilience and dedication of everyone who helped restore this beautiful slice of Surrey. 🌄🎉

Camberley’s own Alex Matthews, the England rugby star and Olympic competitor, has been awarded the Freedom of the Borough by Surrey Heath Council: With 72 caps for England and a World Cup win under her belt, Alex has made her hometown proud. Mayor Sarbie Kang described the honour as “the highest civic recognition” the borough can bestow – not bad for a local girl turned international star! Alongside Alex, a lineup of local heroes also received the accolade, including Camberley Care, Alzheimer’s Café founder Maureen Hume, and others who have poured their hearts into the community. 🏉🎖️

Epsom’s Kevin Webber is about to take on an epic 80-mile challenge to support the hospital that’s been by his side through a decade-long battle with prostate cancer: Diagnosed with just two years to live back in 2014, Kevin turned that prognosis on its head, and now, ten years on, he’s gearing up to run and walk the round trip between his home and The Royal Marsden Hospital in Sutton not once, but ten times in under 24 hours. Each lap will represent a year of his journey and the incredible departments that have helped keep him going. So far, he’s raised over £10,000, but you just know that number is going to keep rising, well done Kevin! You can donate here! 🏃‍♂️💪
