After months of planning (and a little help from a generous grant!), Big Wood Estate in Lingfield is opening a brand-new education centre to teach kids why farming with nature is the way forward. The 270-acre mixed farm, owned by Kate Bigwood, has been running an eco-friendly education program since 2023, but now they’ve got a shiny new classroom to really bring those lessons to life! “It’s about connecting young people to food, nature, and farming,” Kate told BBC Radio Surrey. “We need to start teaching people to think and do things differently, farming with nature, not against it.” The classroom officially opens this Saturday! 🧑🌾
Dormers, the old care home on Foxon Lane that’s been sitting empty for the past eight years, is finally getting a new lease of life: Closed by Surrey County Council in 2016, the building had a brief comeback as a Covid-19 vaccination hub, but now it’s set for a full makeover. Tandridge District Council has snapped up the site and plans to build up to 20 net zero homes, complete with shiny solar panels and air-source heat pumps. “This not only supports climate change but helps our residents keep their energy costs lower,” said Jeremy Pursehouse, chairman of the council's housing committee. About time something positive came out of that place, eh? 🏡☀️
It’s not every day you see a 12-year-old get tackled by an adult on a football pitch, but that’s exactly what happened at the Surrey Casuals FC vs. AFC Ewell match: Reggie, 12, was just minding his business on the sidelines when the ball rolled his way, and he thought, “Why not?” Cue his dash onto the pitch, only to be “wiped out” by Terry, 31, who didn’t actually look that fussed! Thankfully, everyone walked away unscathed, and the game carried on with no hard feelings! See it here. 🚷⚽
