The Digest 🗞️😀

Plans to breathe new life into Weybridge Hall have officially been approved, with the former 1920s cinema now set to become a 400-seat community church: The building, which has stood empty since 2014, was bought by Equippers Church for £1.2m and will be transformed into a modern space for worship, events and local groups. Not everyone’s thrilled, though—residents nearby raised concerns about noise and parking, and some had hoped to see the space revived as a cinema or theatre. Still, councillors said the high street needs fresh energy, and this project might just deliver it. 🏛️🙏

If you’re planning a train journey with your bike this Sunday, heads up: Southern and Thameslink will be enforcing restrictions due to the annual London to Brighton Bike Ride: With 14,000 cyclists expected to hit the 54-mile route for the British Heart Foundation, trains between Brighton and several key stations won’t allow non-folding bikes all day. It’s all about safety and avoiding a two-wheeled pile-up on the platforms. If you're cheering someone on or riding yourself, good luck and bring snacks. 🚴‍♀️🚉

Sixteen-year-old swimmer Thomas Harvey from Epsom has qualified for the Deaflympics in Tokyo this November, but he’s having to raise £5,000 to get there. Despite training for hours every day and smashing the qualification standards, deaf athletes like Thomas aren’t funded by the government, which focuses on Olympic and Paralympic sports. His mum Kristin says he’s worked his socks off, and they’ve now launched a fundraising effort to cover the costs. Let’s hope the community rallies behind this determined young athlete. 🇬🇧💪

Weather

Friday

25° 🌡️ 16° | ⛅ | It’ll be warm with a nice mix of sunshine and cloud — ideal for a stroll, a coffee outside, or a cheeky pint in the garden. Just a heads-up, though: there’s a yellow warning for thunderstorms from 6pm to midnight. Heavy rain might cause a bit of disruption, so maybe don’t plan your outdoor dinner under the fairy lights tonight.

Saturday

22° 🌡️ 12° | ⛅ | Still warm, still pleasant, still no need for a jacket. Unless you’re one of those “just in case” people. The sun’s playing peekaboo again, but overall, a lovely day to potter about or hit the farmers' market like a true Surrey local.

Sunday

22° 🌡️ 11° | ☁️ | Cloudier day on Sunday to end the weekend, but the temperature’s holding up nicely. Great weather for a slow walk, pub roast, or pretending to do housework while actually napping on the sofa.

Thank you! 👍
