What’s on this weekend 📅
Let’s get to it.
RHS Wisley's Dazzling RHS Glow 2024 🌟
Surrey’s favourite festive light show, RHS Glow 2024, is back and brighter than ever!
Starting November 22nd, RHS Wisley will transform into a glittering winter wonderland.
Fantastic trails, glowing giant flowers, a floating pontoon across the lake, and a show-stopping finale by the Jellicoe Canal.
Perfect for family adventures, date nights, or a magical solo evening stroll!
📍 Where: RHS Garden Wisley, Surrey
📅 When: Wednesday, 22 November – Sunday, 5 January
⏰ Time: 4 PM – 9 PM (Last entry at 7:45 PM)
So, What’s New This Year?
🌸 Giant Interactive Flowers: Touch them to light them up – magic for kids and the young at heart!
✨ Floating Pontoon: Yep, you read that right! Walk across Glasshouse Lake and see the garden lights reflected on the water.
🎶 Festive Tunes & Jack Frost Tales: Seasonal music fills the air, plus a special narration from Alan Titchmarsh’s "Jack Frost – A Winter Story."
And of course, don’t miss the glowing tunnel on Wisteria Walk – an absolute must for photos!
If you’re planning a midweek visit, RHS Wisley has you covered with exclusive Black Friday discounts until December 1st. Enjoy £2 off adult tickets and £1 off kids' tickets on selected dates. Perfect excuse for a weekday Glow adventure!
Make sure your phone’s charged because you’ll want to capture it all. From the Star Arch (ideal for that “we’re here!” selfie) to the Jellicoe Canal finale that’ll have you oohing and aahing – it’s all here waiting.
You can also grab festive treats or pop by one of the gift stalls to pick up a little something special. Mulled wine, anyone?
Planning on bringing the family? Wisley’s shuttle from Woking station will run later in the evenings for easy access. And for those who prefer a quieter vibe, there are special low-capacity evenings on Dec 5, 17, and 29.

Where Were We Wednesday! 📸
A little bit tougher today, how did you do?
We were at the Ruins of Newark Priory in Ripley! Such a beautiful spot.
Newark Priory is a captivating medieval ruin on a secluded island along the River Wey near Ripley and Pyrford. Founded in the late 12th century by a Bishop of Winchester and dedicated to the Virgin Mary and Thomas Becket, it was a thriving Augustinian community with lands stretching across London and beyond. During Henry VIII's Dissolution of the Monasteries, the priory was closed, its valuables sent to the Tower, and the buildings partially destroyed.
Today, Newark Priory stands as a Grade I listed ruin, visible from the Wey path near Newark Lock. Each Easter, a dawn service invites locals to gather in its hauntingly beautiful remains, celebrating a piece of Surrey’s medieval heritage.

The Digest 🗞️😀
Big cheers for Farnham Repair Café, who just bagged the King’s Award for Voluntary Service – an honour usually saved for the likes of an MBE: Since 2015, this fantastic crew has fixed over 2,600 items, saved nearly seven tonnes of waste from landfills, and brought many beloved gadgets back to life. It’s no wonder Buckingham Palace has taken notice. Kudos to the volunteers who’ve poured thousands of hours into keeping our community (and our toasters) in tip-top shape. You can find out more about it here. 👑✨
Big plans are afoot for Camberley, Surrey Heath Borough Council just unveiled a vision to transform the town centre into a buzzing hub for indie shopping, dining, and leisure: With a new look for The Square Shopping Centre, improved transport links, and 1,500 affordable homes, Camberley is set to become a go-to destination (you can see the plans here). Look forward to themed artisan markets, street food galore, and a food hall spotlighting local businesses. Council leader Shaun Macdonald assures us they’re ready to tackle any challenges head-on to bring this vibrant vision to life. 🛍️🏡
A transformer the weight of 25 African elephants is rolling through Surrey this weekend: This 155-tonne supergrid transformer is on its way to the West Weybridge substation as part of essential upgrades, escorted by police at a steady 12 mph. The convoy, starting from Tilbury, will crawl along the M25 this Saturday night, with brief traffic holds along the way. National Grid’s project manager assures minimal noise and disruption – and appreciates everyone’s patience while they keep our energy network in top shape! ⚡🚛
