The Digest 🗞️😀

Mole Valley District Council is splashing out £100k to upgrade 51 CCTV cameras across 31 sites—because nothing says "we care" like a shiny new camera to watch over you, right? 😅 While the new cameras won’t be actively monitored, two-thirds of locals said just having them around makes them feel safer. Surrey Police stepped away from the CCTV game last year, saying other tech like body cams and doorbell videos give better bang for their buck. But with the council also throwing in an extra £40k annually for upkeep, local councillor Joanna Slater called it a steal: "unbelievable value for money" when it comes to women feeling safer at night. 📸🚨

Roger Sewill, a 60-year-old campaigner from Charlwood, is setting off on a heartwarming 200-mile trek with his trusty sidekick, Scarlet, a rare and sturdy Dales pony to shine a spotlight on rural mental health: Starting on 15 October, Roger will walk from Surrey to Dorset over two weeks, passing through ancient pathways and taking in the countryside. Roger’s goal is simple but powerful: to make sure people in rural communities know where to turn for help when they need it. Along the way, kind-hearted locals have been offering fields and stables for the duo to rest—proving that sometimes, all it takes is a knock on the door to find a bit of kindness. 🐎🚶‍♂️

The old New Look store on Friary Street has been renovated and will soon be home to a brand-new PureGym—opening its doors on Friday, November 22 at 12pm: Once fully kitted out, this 24/7 fitness haven will boast over 220 pieces of equipment, from free weights to cardio machines. And with PureGym’s no-contract memberships starting at just £14.99 per month (plus a cheeky £15 joining fee), you can smash those fitness goals without smashing your wallet - what do you think of the new addition? Is another gym necessary? 🏋️💪
